The sixth-seeded American was too strong for Safina, making just eight unforced errors in a high-quality match that took just one hour 16 minutes to win the match. Williams will go on to face Jelena Jankovic or Vera Zvonareva on Saturday in the semis. Third-seeded Dinara Safina reaches quarter-finals of Porsche Grand Prix tennis to beat Bulgarian qualifier Tsvetana Pironkova 6-1, 7-6. Safina has a chance at finishing the year at No. 1 after a breakthrough season during which she won four titles. She was also runner-up at the French Open and Olympics and a U.S. Open semifinalist.
"It wasn't an easy match, I didn't play at my best. I was going for my shots even if I was missing some," Safina said. Safina will play either Venus Williams or Kateryna Bondarenko.
